Andalucian White Village of Mijas

Situated 428 mts above sea level is the little white village of Mijas, where many of the 7,500 population are of British nationality. They have relocated to this beautiful place either to retire or or start their own business. So many have moved to Mijas that it now consists of three different urbanisation's - the original 'White Village' in the mountains is now spreading out into the surrounding countryside and down towards the coast which is now known as Mijas Costa.

Even so, you would have to go along way to find such a picturesque typical Spanish village!

Views of Mijas

Two very different views of the small ''white village'' of Mijas. You only have to go a few kilometers inland from the tourist resorts of the Costa del Sol, and you are in a very different part of Spain! Everyday lots of tourists make their way up to this little village perched on the mountain side. From here you not only have the pleasure of seeing such a well kept place where the locals live, but also the fantastic views of the surrounding country side and on a clear day views of the coast.

Costa del Sol - Mijas Pueblo

Mijas is a pretty little Spanish pueblo situated more than 400mts above sea level in the mountains at the back of Fuengirola. With its narrow streets and white washed buildings, this makes Mijas just about one of the most picturesque places to visit!
From the large walkway and terrace behind the tourist information centre you can look out towards the sea and see the excellent views of the coast.

MIJAS, ON NOT SUCH A NICE DAY!

As there is little or no means of industry in Mijas tourism is the main source of income. Many of the small house's have now been turned into little business's such as cafes, restaurants, bars or shops where many of the residents sell all kinds of souvenirs - many of which are hand made. Such as knitwear, jewellery and home made jams and cakes which are onsale in the cafes.

The most unusual fact about Mijas is that it has the only oval bullring in Spain! (sad to say is still in use.)
To reach Mijas there is no need to book an organised excursion as there is a local bus service which runs from Benalmadena Costa, the fare only being about 1.20euro. On Wednesday at 12 o' clock there is a free Flamenco show in the town square along with wine and tapas. This is the day when the buses get really busy, and the drivers pack on as many as possible, I have never seen them leave any one behind yet!
