Costa del Sol - Estepona

The resort of Estepona is much quieter than the more well known places up the coast such as Torremolinos or Fuengirola. One reason could be its locality, which is 8o kms away from Malaga airport which serves the Costa del Sol resorts. The airport of Gibralter is only about 45 kms away but is only served by a few flights from the UK, mainly London.

Although Estepona has a coastline of more than 20 kms, it has still retained a lot the Spanish village charm which is often lost these days with the invasion of tourists ! The town still has the narrow streets and pretty white washed dwellings, along with small squares sheltered by trees in which the locals gather for their daily chat! Here also is the marina and port where the fishermen bring their catch to sell at the daily auction for the restraunts and Chiringuitos which line the sea front.

Costa del Sol Holiday

If you are planning a holiday on the Costa del Sol this year, an ideal base from which to see as much as possible would be Benalmadena. This resort is situated between two of the most popular resorts in this area, Torremolinos and Fuengirola. With excellent links for public transport and an abundance of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants.

Here you will find plenty of hotels to suit holiday makers of every age....

...but many times for a family, hotels can work out quite expensive, especially if you need to book 2 or 3 rooms to accommodate everyone in the family.

A very good alternative is to book a privately owned apartment or villa, by booking privately owned accommodation through the owner you cut out any fees charged by agents who take bookings for the owners. You also get the benefit of a please your self holiday...even having to get the kids up and out of your hotel room to let the cleaners in on a morning can be a pain !
With this kind of holiday you can come and go as you please, and if you book a villa you are also more than likely to have your own private pool !

Costa del Sol Beaches.

Here is a photo slide show of just a few of the beaches along the Costa del Sol. Some of the best beaches of the Costa's are right here in southern Spain. Estepona covers more than 20km of coast line with numerous beaches, more than enough room for everyone! Puerto Banus - a haven for the rich and famous. Visit the beaches here and you never know who you may bump into! Marbella - also a place to be seen, especially along the 'Golden Mile' Here you will find Marbella Beach Club with its many beach facilities. Mijas Costa, although Mijas is a small white Spanish village in the montains, it reaches down to the coast and has 12 km of excellent beach. Benalmadena with 9 km of beach of varying quality with plenty of sunbeds and parasols for hire, always a favorite for families! Torremolinos one of the best - with a wide 7 km long beach, with a very nice walkway stretching from one end to the other! The town of Nerja has an unbelievable 16 km of golden beaches - very picturesque with the backdrop of Nerja town and the Sierra mountains behind.

About the Costa del Sol

The Costa del Sol has approximately 161 kilometers of soft sand and a very mild winter climate, which makes this area of Spain an all year round holiday destination. No matter what time of year you visit, you can be sure there are always plenty of events taking place and places to visit while you are here!

One of the most popular pastimes for the men is golf, with numerous excellent courses.
For the children the choice is endless, theme parks, zoos, marine life centres, parks, go karts to name just a few!
All women love to shop, and here there is every kind of shop you could ever want! All the big designer names are here, along with some favorite high street stores from home. Remember the old C&A which we no longer see at home? Its still here! Also to be found here are Boots, Dunnes, Marks & Spencer and Body Shop.
Each resort has their own market day and some even have a weekly boot sale!

Then not forgetting almost every ones favourite reason for a holiday....a few drinks and a good meal. There is every kind of restaurant you can think of, whether you want the best there is or good old fashioned fish & chips.

Resorts along the Costa del Sol

A good way to start this new blog is by showing the small ferry boat which will take you to the three main resorts on the Costa del Sol. The first one you reach as you head south from Malaga airport is Torremolinos. Then right next door is Benalmadena, further south from here is Fuengirola.

All three places are ideal for family holidays, with which I'll be sharing with you all sorts of news of events and photos of other places which can be easily visited while you holiday in this part of Spain.
