If you are planning a holiday on the Costa del Sol this year, an ideal base from which to see as much as possible would be Benalmadena. This resort is situated between two of the most popular resorts in this area, Torremolinos and Fuengirola. With excellent links for public transport and an abundance of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants.
Here you will find plenty of hotels to suit holiday makers of every age....
...but many times for a family, hotels can work out quite expensive, especially if you need to book 2 or 3 rooms to accommodate everyone in the family.
A very good alternative is to book a privately owned apartment or villa, by booking privately owned accommodation through the owner you cut out any fees charged by agents who take bookings for the owners. You also get the benefit of a please your self holiday...even having to get the kids up and out of your hotel room to let the cleaners in on a morning can be a pain !
With this kind of holiday you can come and go as you please, and if you book a villa you are also more than likely to have your own private pool !
I have found a website that offers just this kind of holiday with a wide range of accommodation, most properties are within walking distance to the beach and the award winning marina of Benalmadena, visit the website HERE
The site offers a very easy and reliable booking system along with photos of all the properties on offer and plenty of ideas of things to do and see in the surrounding areas.

Ronda - El Tajo Gorge
The historic town of Ronda is about 40 miles inland from Marbella and is one of the oldest towns in Spain. This must be some of the best scenery to be found in Spain. Most sightseers come to see El Tajo gorge with depths of 600ft as seen in the first photo below. From here you have views of the surrounding country side for miles around and also the dwellings perched on the edge of the gorge. Some people have even carved out steps in the rock by which to make they way to a lower ledge in the rock and then created small gardens !
To get the full benefit of this town its a very good idea if you first call in at the tourist information place, where you will be given advice of the best places to visit in the available time you have. They will also give you free maps of both the old and new parts of town.
One part of the gorge is called Vultures Canyon from where you can actually look down and see Griffon Vultures soaring down below you.

Mijas - The Folk Museum
The white washed village of Mijas has a number of very interesting sites to visit. This post shows the Folk Museum which shows the very basic way in which the villagers used to live and work in these very remote places.
